Rajlakshmi Cotton Mills
Since 1934, Rajlakshmi Cotton Mills (RCM) in Kolkata, India have worked hard to reach their dream of becoming a leader in organic cotton production. A pioneer in the organic and ethical cotton industry, RCM is certified by FLO-Fairtrade Cotton Standard, Fair Trade-USA and, and Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS).
“RCM workers rely on their jobs to better their living conditions, particularly concerning health, education and housing and RCM takes this responsibility seriously… At RCM, we take great pride in the quality of our relationships with farmers, suppliers and partners, as well as the attention given to the social and economic welfare of our workers.” RCM Website
RCM operates 3 factories employing around 1000 workers specialising in woven and knitted textiles. They ensure that workers’ rights are respected through minimum wage and maximum working hour’s compliance, overtime compensation and ensuring no child or forced labour. All workers have rights to Freedom of Association and RCM has taken a positive stance towards unions and workers represented by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU).
