Azeem's story is the perfect example of some of the work that Asha does to help it's artisan groups. Asha provided a business counselor to Azeem to help him in day to day operations as he took over his uncle's business to keep it going after his sudden death. Azeem was counseled the process of production, handling cash flow, and designing new products. He was advised on how to manage orders, timely delivery, managing artisans, as well as his responsibility to the family of the late Mr. Rafique and the expectations of buyers in the international market.
The sheesham nose glasses stand has proved to be an ongoing favourite with our customers for many years. The original version was designed and carved by the late Rafique Ahmad who took on his young nephew, Azeem, as an apprentice in 2006. Rafique mentored Azeem and taught him the intricacies of his business. Rafique had two young sons and his wife, Haseena was pregnant with their third child when Rafique suddenly passed. After Rafique's passing, Azeem took charge of the business with the full support of the Asha field staff in Saharanpur who were able to guide Azeem through this difficult time. At just 25, Azeem has flourished, successfully managing the business. This fun new take on a classic design is carved by Azeem's team in Saharanpur.
