Lacquer ware dates from the 8th century in North Vietnam. It is based on a natural vegetable lacquer, a combination derived from the resin of the sumac tree , which is common in Asian countries but only the "lacquer tree" in the province of Vinh Phu of Vietnam gives the real beauty and durability of Vietnamese lacquer ware. The complete process of making lacquer ware can take at least 2 months, with 12 production stages.
