Casa de los Gigantes
Casa de los Gigantes was founded in 1963 as one of the first stores in Antigua, the old capital of Guatemala. The group occupies one of the 17th century houses in Antigua’s historic streets, offering hand made goods from the highlands of Guatemala. Casa de los Gigantes works with over 30 artisans and family workshops, located in the rural areas of Guatemala. Casa de los Gigantes also has its own workshop for producing small wooden furniture and accessories.
Materials such as native pinewood as well as plantation teak, recycled coffee bush wood, indigenous natural resources and recycled materials feature in their product range. Los Gigantes also offers store space to organized groups of artisan women in different areas of the country, and acts as a local outlet for small craft producers of glass, ceramics and textiles. This family of artisans is committed to developing long term sustainable relationships with producers and customers alike. Their mission is to create, develop and promote articles that have been handcrafted for today’s world using ecological materials. Their vision is to make possible a world where the artisans and their work are appreciated for its cultural and practical values and where artisans can live with dignity and are fairly remunerated.
