CIAP

CIAP, the Central Interregional de Artesanos del Peru, is a non-profit organisation that markets handicrafts for 16 Peruvian community-based groups from the Pacific coast to Lake Titicaca and which represents over 700 artisans and their families.

CIAP carries out multiple activities to improve the living and working conditions of the artisans, their families and communities. To help defend the cultural identity of the Andes and Amazon regions, CIAP offers training programs and technical advice to the artisans, providing information to allow artisans to adapt their products to the quality and design standards that international markets demand, whilst maintaining their Andean characteristics. In order to further channel the marketing of their products, members gather once a year to establish an annual work plan, evaluate new member applications, set budgets, write by-laws, and share information. In its approach, CIAP promotes the humanitarian values of honesty, transparency, responsibility and respect for traditional Incan principles.

The organisation is a member of the International Association for Alternative Trade (IFAT) and the Peruvian Network of Equitable Trade and Moral Consumption. CIAP produces vases, jewellery, tapestries, nativity sets, as well as other ceramics and wooden objects.
