PODIE - the People's Organisation for Development, Import & Export – aims to raise the living standard of small-scale organic farmers in remote communities in Sri Lanka. Located in Negombo, 30kms north of Colombo, PODIE buys directly from producers and exports their products to fair traders around the world.

Most of the farmers PODIE works with grow spices – they work with approximately 1,500 small-scale farmers made up of 14 groups, with 10 of the groups producing a range of spices. Other groups carry out the processing and packaging of the spices. PODIE helps to improve standards of production by providing necessary infrastructure facilities, provides awareness around organic production and payments to farmers are well above the market rate.
